GDES3003 SELECTED ONGOING PROTOYPE WORK - ZCB PROJECT

We're presently a couple of weeks away from breaking up for Christmas now and students eventually then hand in final work w/c 4th January on this 'live' project for clients at the Centre for Alternative Technology. Here's a few selected examples of ongoing student work approaching their final prototype stages.

AMY WARBURTON

Tutor Andy: These are really coming along now Amy. Simple, clear and concise they really help communicate the key issues well. Great characters and art styles involved - that flat colour style works well in this context. Clear use of ID and great to see that you've experimented wsith mockups in this way  too. From a recent tutorial I know that you've really benefitted from getting these concepts out there and getting some user testing feedback too which has further added to your rounded solutions here.

CLAIRE WALKER

Tutor Andy: I appreciate that these aren' finished pieces Claire but I think they show a lot of promise. Do try and remember to work as best possible to a clear column grid layout, make sure there's 'air' between the edges of the document and logos and text - make sure this spacing is equal around all edges - this will help with it's legibility. Try to incorporate the 'in partnership with (UW logo)' element if you can too here..

LAUREN ANDERSON

Tutor Andy: I like the way these are shaping up Lauren. Clear and simple with simple elements. Maybe consider more of a contrast between the globe and it's background as both are equally dark at present - maybe lighten the globe? Never put lines around text elements please, by varying their tone/colour you should be able to create enough contrast for them to work. Like the QR idea in the footer - great for helping viewrs to go to anothr more detailed source etc. Make sure the footer works without the block tones behind the logos - appreciate these are early positionals though.. Make sure you best apply columns and grids on your flyers etc - we'd never run text all the way across a page normally like this - two columns would make it more legible..

CAMERON PICKSTOCK

Tutor Andy: Really like the illustrative elements of these Cam. Again they're simple, colourful and the message is quick to process. Appreciste these aren't finished but I think they make for a really fresh different treamtment of the project here..

JORDANNA JOSE

Tutor Andy: I like the idea of buildings showing greeen shoots here Jordanna - I guess you have to balance that with the fact that some old neglected buildings so often have plants growing from roofs etc but if you can make this work as a 'new green shoots' idea then I think it has a lot of potential. The 'cycle' you start to show here bodes well - maybe more directional arrows might help re-iterate this. I like the idea of working in an info graphic in  this way too - pie chart - some issues with  legibility maybe at present here but I think it could be made to work definitely.

ASHER-KATE FISHER

Tutor Andy: We had a recent tutorial and I've made vsrious little suggest to help improve this but the basic idea is strong Asher.. We discussed the possibility of a QR code link or something that might help qualify the statement a little further. Clear, simple and eyecatching though..

ALEX HOLLOWAY

Tutor Andy: Lots of potential with this example Alex. The strong visual element to it is the illustration of the tres and process going on.. We had a tutorial recently and I suggested a few further refinements though - including trying to trim down th amount of text here ideally - it's all relevant but  folks have a short attention span in the street etc and will likely not digest all that you've written here. Also suggested more bullet pointing if you could, range left text where possible ands not centred and maybe some more icons or pictograms linked the themes you're putting across.. Like the way it's heading though..
