GDES3003 Green Design: A Selection of Student Outputs for the OLPRO Sustainable Design Brief

Detailed below is a small, select set of sample outputs from the Green Design brief set by sustainable gear and tent retailer OLPRO to yr 3 Graphic Design students in Oct 2021.

Client comments at the completion of the collaboration:
"Amazed by some of the brilliant work created by the University of Worcester Graphic Design students, following a collaboration with the OLPRO team.

It's been a pleasure working with Andy and the students and a huge thanks go to them all for their time and creativity on the project. We'll be using the students' work throughout the year across our social media pages, so keep an eye out for some pretty snazzy designs!"

Jack Barnett, PR & Marketing Manager, OLPRO Ltd.

Student comments (anonymised) taken from reflective reports at the end of the project:

Student 01

"... this module has been very thought provoking and educational regarding sustainability and conserving the environment. The research behind this project has given me hope that companies are striving to make a positive impact on the environment. OLPRO’s brief has forced me to work with an open mind set in terms of design, as in some aspect’s the company’s brand-guidelines have been quite restrictive with the typefaces, logos and colour scheme. However, I am grateful for this as it has taught me to work effectively with a set of demands, realistic to what I might expect working in the design market."

Student 02

"I really enjoyed creating the designs for this brief.. As designers, we must be knowledgeable about how our work is affecting the planet, such as the use of inks and paper, as well as the practices of our clients."

Student 03

"This module helped me build an understanding of the environmental issues we face nowaday ad the importance of the role of the designer in the issue. Furthermore, the topics discussed have made me get a critical opinion on how these issues can be tackled, providing me with resources both factual, theoretical and practical in order for me to adapt my creations and (soon) professional work to a more sustainable and ethical way of designing. "

Student 04

"Overall, I do believe that I have gained a new perspective on the world of green design – especially the consideration of sustainability and how it can also be used within the design industry. Whilst I did struggle with certain limitations at the beginning, I found the confidence to challenge not only myself but also the demands of the client to come to a much stronger solution, and I was able to develop my own confidence as a designer.
