GDES3003 STUDY VISIT TO THE CENTRE FOR ALTERNATE TECHNOLOGY & ON SITE WORKSHOPS

A huge thanks to the staff at the Centre for Alternate Technology who hosted us for our annual study visit and sustainable visual communication workshop on site.

Year 3 students on the Green Design module were talked through both the science and research behind their 'Zero Carbon Britain' project by Senior Lecturer Dr Alan Owen. Students also heard how CAT treat their educational visual communications too by on site designer John Urry who also gave a really useful Q+A session.

Massive thanks to both Alan and John - the students really felt that this was hugely helpful (see quotes below) in helping them arrive at communication concept ideas for the brief.

Some lovely student feedback from the visit taken on the way home.

Our yr 3 team for the day - thanks again all, you were a great group to take over there.

The water-powered funicular railway brings visitors up from the car park and entrance to the main visitor area.

It wasn't all work, work, work - students take time out to play a quick game of table tennis.

Design students listen and make notes during Alan Owen's talk.

Dr Alan Owen - put across some pretty stark data and scenarios to us - the conclusions of which were inescapable.

CAT's on site designer John Urry discusses the organisation's thinking and techniques for the devt of their own graphics.

CAT's inner courtyard - a quiet haven for reflection and thought.

One of the many practical demonstrations of sustainable technology - clearly explained by colourful Info Graphics.

Still enough time to look through CAT's excellent selection of books before we dash off back to Worcester.

The funicular railway back down to the car park after the day's sessions - much to think about!
